SURREY, BC – October 24, 2022 – On November 5, Sources Foundation will be holding a charity gala, Frozen – A Winter Wonderland, to raise funds for women in need of crisis care and support.
The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in Sources Community Resources Centres (SOURCES) experiencing a surge for women’s services across the board in its program offerings. Last year alone, SOURCES trauma counselling program serviced a profound caseload of 850 women. Furthermore, 17% of these were sadly seniors.
Three years ago, SOURCES Women’s Place nearly tripled in receiving crisis calls, going from 400 calls to 1100. Since this uptick, call volumes have not returned back to its previous levels. In response to this increased demand, SOURCES added 2500 more counselling hours, expanded its team of counsellors, and extended its trauma counselling services beyond South Surrey to also reach vulnerable women in Cloverdale, Newton and White Rock.
“Never have we seen our Women’s Place be as busy as it is now. I am happy these women have the courage to walk through our doors to ask for help, but we are feeling the pressure of providing the necessary resources to meet their needs,” says Denise Darrell, SOURCES Executive Director. “We are at capacity and I’d like to call on the community to unite in supporting our efforts to assist these women. Proceeds generated from this year’s Sources Foundation gala will allow us to bring more counsellors on board, contribute to our capital funds project for Women’s Place, and expand our anti-violence locations.”
The hope of this gala is to raise $300,000 to fulfill the increased demand for these women services. The event’s theme is Frozen – A Winter Wonderland, taking place at Hazelmere Golf & Tennis Club. Sources Foundation is grateful for the outpouring support it has received on this initiative, including Co-Presenting Sponsors Scotiabank and Save-On-Foods. They have joined forces for a second year in a row to help bring this fundraising gala to life.
Other community partners include the sponsorships of Comfort Keepers, DMCL, LLP, Hazelmere Golf & Tennis Club, Danna Kratzenberg, ABC Customs Brokers, and Kwantlen Polytechnic University.
Although tickets to this event is sold out, you can show your support by participating in the gala’s 50/50 raffle draw by visiting Sources5050.Rafflenexus.com/ or bidding in their silent auction here SourcesGalaAuction.ca.
