Semiahmoo Rotary’s Charity Golf Tournament raises $61,000 for Imagination Library

Hundreds more children in Surrey and White Rock will be eligible to receive a free book in the mail every month, thanks to a $61,000 donation from the Semiahmoo Rotary Club to SOURCES’ Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library Program!

The cheque was presented by Rotarians Larry Whitehead and Jim Purcell, at the club’s breakfast meeting on October 11, 2018. The proceeds come from a successful 29th Annual Charity Golf Tournament in June, which the pair co-chaired. This is SOURCES’ first year as a beneficiary.

A beaming David Young (SOURCES CEO) thanked the organizers, participants and corporate sponsors – particularly the Bosa Family Foundation – for their generosity.

“All of your generous contributions will help children in our community have an equal opportunity to develop their literacy and reading skills. We couldn’t do this without support from community partners like you. Thank you so much.”

Also present from SOURCES were Manager of Volunteer Resources, Carrie Belanger; Society board members Marlyn Graziano (President), Bryan Sommer (Vice-President) and Marc Burchell (Director); and Sources Foundation President, Bruce Hayne.

In addition, that morning, a signed copy of Dolly Parton’s book, “Coat of Many Colours,” was auctioned for $100 – which was immediately donated to the Imagination Library!

Our local affiliate of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, operated by Sources Volunteer Services, currently serves over 250 children in Surrey and White Rock. Every month, children registered in the program receive a free, home-delivered, brand new book from birth until they turn 5 years old.

“The cost per child is $3.55 per month, which covers the book and shipping,” explained Belanger. “This incredible donation from the Semiahmoo Rotary Club will allow us to enroll every child on our wait list, and grant us the capacity to enroll even more children to the program.
