Semiahmoo Rotary’s Charity Golf Tournament to benefit Imagination Library

Funds raised at the Semiahmoo Rotary Club’s Charity Golf Tournament this June will go to support Sources’ Dolly Parton Imagination Library for the first time.

“This year we are very proud to announce our Partnership with Sources Community Resource Centres. You may know that Sources operates the Food Bank in South Surrey/White Rock and Langley, however they run many more charitable initiatives for our communities such as the Imagination Library literacy program for children,” stated Golf Tournament Co-Chairs Larry Whitehead and Jim Purcell.

“Not only is this an important cause, but it also aligns with Rotary on another significant level. Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library is in its second of a three-year partnership as an official Service Partner with Rotary International,” Whitehead added. “The goal is to increase the number of Rotary Clubs who collaborate and help bring the Imagination Library to their local communities.”

The local affiliate of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, operated by Sources Volunteer Services, currently serves 251 children in Surrey and White Rock. Every month, children registered in the program receive a free, home-delivered, brand new book from birth until they turn 5 years old. The program aims to increase early childhood literacy and reading skills that will continue as a child develops. And although this is a “library,” the child gets to keep the books!

“Every child receives the same books to read so they can be ready at the same level when they enter kindergarten,” said Carrie Belanger, SOURCES Manager of Volunteer Services. “The cost per child is $3.55 per month, which covers the book and shipping. A donation of $25,000 could provide a monthly book for five years for an additional 100 children on our waiting list.”

This year will be the Semiahmoo Rotary Club’s 29th Annual Charity Golf Tournament and it is being held at Morgan Creek Golf Course on June 21, 2018.

Registration is now open and we encourage you or your friends to come out and participate in this event. You can register to play as an individual or as a team of four if you wish.

Over the years, the support of players and sponsors have provided more than $2 million to fund many vital community projects. One hundred percent of the net tournament proceeds are contributed back to our community to improve the lives of those in need.

Thank you for your amazing generosity and for choosing to support Sources this year!
