BC Thanksgiving Food Drive breaks records

Thanks for giving! On September 26, 2020, community members throughout White Rock/South Surrey and Langley gave more than 57,000 lbs. of non-perishable food as part of the 12th annual BC Thanksgiving Food Drive in support of local food banks. According to organizers, this year’s event was “the most successful year ever.”

Sources White Rock/South Surrey Food Bank, which serves 1,500+ registered clients, received more than 21,000 lbs. of food (compared to 16,660 last year)!

Sources Langley Food Bank, which serves close to 1,500 registered clients, received 36,000 lbs. of food (compared to 13,500 last year)!

Both food banks also provide support to more than 100 unregistered individuals including people without a home.

“It is with utmost appreciation and gratefulness to all the volunteers who gave countless hours, during these many days of preparation and especially on the final collection day last Saturday, even during the rain,” said organizers. “Thank you to the individuals, homes, churches, businesses and grocery stores who gave so much to make this year a huge success.”

The BC Thanksgiving Food Drive has been supporting food banks across the province since 2009.
