Rocco Forte can tell you all about the Coldest Night of the Year (CNOY).
A student at Semiahmoo Trail Elementary, Rocco is the Captain of “Team Semitrail.” On February 22, 2020, he will be leading his team to walk in his fourth CNOY (White Rock) in support of SOURCES’ Homelessness Prevention Services and Rent Bank.
CNOY is a family-friendly walkathon that happens in 145 communities across Canada on the same day. Participants raise awareness and money to help local charities that support people who are homeless, hungry and hurting.
To raise awareness, Rocco spent time in January interviewing Jay Blaschuk, Manager of Housing Support Services at SOURCES. He asked Jay serious questions like who uses the Rent Bank, what SOURCES can do with the fundraised money, and if even a small donation can make a difference.

To raise money, Rocco organized a hot chocolate sale at his school on February 10. “We poured out 200 cups of hot chocolate – Tim Hortons donated 100 cups,” said Rocco’s mom, Sara. “We only used 50 disposable cups as most kids brought their own. We raised $374.15 towards our team’s CNOY fundraising.” Bravo!
As of 4:30 p.m. on February 11, Team Semitrail has raised over $1,100!
However, they still have a ways to go to reach their ambitious fundraising goal of $3,000. To support Team Semitrail, please click the button below:
