When Life Gives You Lemons

The Young Entrepreneur (YE) Learning Labs’ lemonade is the perfect way to quench your thirst and support SOURCES this summer. On July 14th, 2017, YE Learning Labs hosted their Lemonade Stand Challenge in front of South Surrey Recreation & Arts Centre. In small teams, the kids entered a fun and friendly competition to see which group could demonstrate the finest entrepreneurship skills. On top of excellent customer service, all proceeds went towards SOURCES’ programming. And guess what? They raised over 300 DOLLARS. Bravo, Young Entrepreneurs!

From the parking lot, you could hear voices chanting a catchy cheer encouraging the public to buy lemonade for a charitable cause. Getting closer, it became apparent that the group pitching YE Learning Labs’ lemonade was, in fact, the marketing team. The kids did a great job at catching peoples’ attentions as they waved their bright red pompoms in the air and shared a friendly grin. The marketing team also equipped prospective customers with useful information: prices, how delicious the lemonade was, and what organization their money was going towards.

Approaching the lemonade stand, a set of smiling junior entrepreneurs welcomed clientele and introduced the flavours up for grabs: Minion Lemonade and Bi-Yo Lemonade. (Complimentary sweets were also set up on the table if your sweet tooth was persistent!) Like the marketing team, the salespeople made sure their customers had access to useful and honest information. They exhibited genuine, kind and meaningful customer service. Just as it opened, the transaction closed with a smile.

YE Entrepreneurs Learning Labs CEO and Founder Tressa Wood said, “The experience gives the kids an opportunity to practice their new business skills, particularly sales, marketing and customer service. They’re operating their own mini-business and competing in a fun and friendly environment.”

If you or anyone you know is interested in signing a child up for YE Learning Labs’ fun, hands-on and informative programs, please visit their website here.

The next Lemonade Stand Challenge will be held at St. James Community Square in Vancouver on Friday, July 21st from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, with donations going to the Children’s Foundation. They will then be hosting their final Lemonade Stand Challenge at the South Surrey Recreation & Arts Centre on Friday, July 28th from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, with donations going to SOURCES’ social wellness programs. Support the kids putting their entrepreneurship skills into practice, and get a taste of their refreshing and delicious lemonade – both with a social purpose.

LEMONADE STAND CHALLENGE UPDATE (July 31, 2017): As with the first time around, the Lemonade Stand Challenge on July 28, 2017 was another success. Not only was it a hot day, making the event a great way to quench one’s thirst; the kids sold even more lemonade – 370 DOLLARS worth, to be precise. This means that YE Entrepreneurs (Young Entreprenurs? YE Learning Labs?) has generously donated a total of 670 DOLLARS to SOURCES, and more specifically, Nicolas’ Birthday Club, which will help less fortunate children in our community. Thank you again, Young Entrepreneurs!
