Join the Great Canadian Giving Challenge this June and help Sources win $10,000 to make healthcare accessible for seniors!

The warm weather and longer days of Canadian summers are so wonderful that it can be easy for Canadians to forget to support their favourite charities and causes. To help save charities coast-to-coast from the summer-giving drought, CanadaHelps and The GIV3 Foundation have launched the third annual Great Canadian Giving Challenge.

The Great Canadian Giving Challenge is a national public contest to benefit any registered Canadian charity. Every $1 donated to a registered charity in June via CanadaHelps.org or GivingChallenge.ca (minimum $3 donation required) automatically enters the charity to win an additional $10,000 donation. The grand prize draw is on Canada Day and one lucky charity will receive $10,000.

Last year, for the second annual Great Canadian Giving Challenge, 52,000 Canadians participated and donated more than $8 million to over 8,600 charities, representing a 48% increase in donations compared to June 2014 and a 21% increase from 2015’s first annual Great Canadian Giving Challenge.

The Sources Foundation is participating in the Challenge and are the only challenger from White Rock. Our goal is to fundraise $2,000 for our Volunteer Wheels program. Since 2009, volunteer drivers have provided over 2,900 rides for seniors living in White Rock and South Surrey who have no other means of attending their healthcare appointments around the Lower Mainland. When seniors use the Volunteer Wheels program, they are able to live more independently, more socially well and in better health.

Volunteer drivers are also often an emotional support for clients who are socially isolated, or may be going through a time of uncertainty and fear of their medical condition. Volunteers often stay with their client if requested and provide companionship before and after the medical visit. After a visit, volunteers ensure the client returns to the car safely and is returned home straight to their front door.

“Knowing there is one place I can depend on is very uplifting. When my driver called me it made me feel special and worthy,” said one client. “That did a whole lot towards helping me feel less so very alone. Thank you.”
