Amica White Rock and SOURCES volunteers deliver holiday joy to seniors

For a second year, Sources Community Resource Centres and Amica White Rock partnered to deliver festival holiday meals and a gift package to isolated individuals in White Rock/South Surrey.

On Christmas Eve, upwards of 40 volunteers aided in the effort, including local politicians Kerry-Lynne Findlay (MP for South Surrey-White Rock), Trevor Halford (MLA Surrey-White Rock) and Linda Annis (Surrey Councillor); SOURCES board members, staff and other community volunteers.

The gift packages included turkey dinners and pumpkin pie provided by Amica White Rock, and other treats and gifts contributed by the Community Christmas Dinner committee, BC Liquor Stores, Michaels Artisan Bakery and Café, SOURCES, Starbucks, and West Coast Gardens.

The inspiration behind this partnership dates back more than 40 years, to a Community Christmas Dinner organized by volunteers. That annual event is typically held at the White Rock Baptist Church but due to COVID-19 this could not be done. To ensure isolated community members would not feel hungry or alone on Christmas Day, SOURCES and Amica organized this Christmas Eve delivery in 2020 and were happy to be able to repeat it in 2021. More than 130 dinners and gift packages were delivered!

Note from a gift package recipient

Thank you to Amica White Rock and the many volunteers for bringing holiday cheer home to so many who are alone and isolated.
