“The Rotary Save-On-Foods gift card program was introduced in June of 2016 to raise funds for our local Food Bank. As a result of the incredible support of our community, more than $64,000 has been raised for the purchase of nutritious food for people in need. We are committed to continue this program with the generous support of Save-On-Foods and our new Food Bank Partners,” said John Block, founder of The Block Charitable Foundation.
The Rotary Save-On-Foods gift card program turns grocery shopping into an activity with a social purpose. Benefiting Sources White Rock/South Surrey Food Bank, this program has had so much success that it is entering its second year with added help from several local businesses.
A huge welcome to our new Food Bank Partners: The Block Charitable Foundation, Dianne Mee and Associates Inc , Elkay Developments, The Funke Group at Scotia Wealth Management, Schill Insurance, Timms Engen Wealth Management, Wave Dentistry, Windsor Square Mall, Peace Arch Rotary, Semiahmoo Rotary, South Surrey Rotary, White Rock Peninsula Rotary, and White Rock Rotary for stepping up as leaders to support this program.
Goals for this program include encouraging community members to revise shopping habits to solely purchase their groceries with these gift cards and to continue growing the program through the help of local businesses as sponsors and vendors.
Gift cards can be purchased at any of the eight approved vendors. When used, 17 per cent of the gift card value will go directly to the Food Bank. These gift cards are differentiated from regular gift cards by a Rotary sticker.
“Our local Food Bank feeds over 650 people weekly. To do this we need at least $300,000 in cash donations and 300,000 lbs. of food every year. By partnering with Save-On-Foods, Rotary is continuously working to create sustainable means for the Sources White Rock/South Surrey Food Bank through this program,” said Denise Darrell, Director of Women, Seniors and Community Services at SOURCES.
