Peninsula Rotary Clubs to present Sources Food Bank with $27,000

The Semiahmoo Rotary Club will present a ($27,000) cheque to the SOURCES White Rock/South Surrey Food Bank this Thursday July 27, as a result of the proceeds from a very successful first year of the Rotary Save-On-Foods Gift Card Program (Program).

The existing Program was initiated last June by White Rock Rotarian John Block in hopes of becoming a sustainable means of financial support for the SOURCES White Rock/South Surrey Food Bank. The program was organized by the five Rotary Clubs on the Peninsula and has now become a grand project involving nine community sponsors.

HOW THE PROGRAM WORKS| Upon purchasing a Rotary Save-On-Foods gift card from an approved vendor, 17 per cent of the gift card value goes to purchasing food for the Food Bank. Through the generous partnership with Save-On-Foods and local businesses, this program has raised over $65,000 in the past year to help feed over 650 families that use the Food Bank.

Darrell Jones, President of Save-On-Foods, will be a special guest. To honour Save-On-Foods for their ongoing support of the program, the five Rotary clubs (Semiahmoo, Peace Arch, South Surrey, White Rock Peninsula and White Rock) will recognize Jones, a South Surrey resident, with the Paul Harris Fellowship Award. The Award, an honour given by Rotary clubs, recognizes outstanding contributions and service to the community.

The presentation of the cheque and award will take place on Thursday, July 27 from 7 to 9 a.m. at the Rotary Field House (2199 148 St., Surrey). We invite all media to attend.
