Sources’ super powers are soaring off the charts, following a fantastically successful fundraising gala that raised $180,000 – more than doubling last year’s total.
The superhero-themed Sources Super Gala took place Saturday, April 9, 2016 at the Hazelmere Golf and Tennis Club. Over 200 guests arrived; many dressed in disguises that fit the theme, travelling all the way from Gotham City, Metropolis and even the planet Krypton.
“We are ecstatic with the results of our Gala this year. We sold more tickets than last year, and in fact, we sold out early and added more seats to accommodate the demand,” said Sources CEO David Young.
“On top of that, we exceeded our fundraising goal of $100,000 a week in advance of our event, something we’ve never had happen before. So, we set a new goal, $150,000, and broke that before the evening was done. To me that popularity says two things: first, the community cares about what we do to help others; and second, that we put on a truly fun Gala.”
*NEW LEVEL* PLATINUM SPONSORS
Several new Gala features were introduced this year including a platinum sponsorship level ($10,000) that four generous businesses committed to (B&B Contracting Group, Forge Properties, Newmark Group/Sagebrush Golf Course, and BayBridge/PrimeTime Living).
MYSTERY GUEST & COMMUNITY HERO AWARD
Another allure was the first-ever Sources Community Hero Award that was presented by Young and MLA Gordon Hogg to a mystery guest whose identity was teased weeks prior and revealed that night: Mark Madryga.
“One of the important things about our community is the relationships we have with each other and being able to develop those relationships to effect change,” Hogg said. “Certainly, Mark has been one of those people who has helped to effect that change and bring social capital to our community. Thank you, Mark, for everything you do for our community.”
A “SUPER” NIGHT
Guests played games, enjoyed a plated dinner, interacted with a hilarious Riddler from Peninsula Productions, bid on over $40,000 worth of silent and live auction items, and danced until the candlelight went out.
The evening was run seamlessly by the emceeing talents of BC Lions’ Marco Iannuzzi, the auctioneering skills of Stuart McFadden, the energetic leadership of gala chair Michael Stuart, and the hard work of Sources and Scotiabank (presenting sponsor) staff and volunteers.

by reporter Alex Browne
Every spring for the past 21 years, Sources has hosted a themed fundraising gala to raise money for its social wellness services. This year was the first Gala for our recently renamed Sources Foundation. The money raised will benefit Sources programs throughout Surrey, White Rock, Delta and Langley that focus on children and families, poverty relief and community support.
